The REVIVAL Summer Build: Four Weeks of Stronger, Fitter and Better Training

Summer can make consistent training difficult.
Holidays, weekends away and changing routines can easily disrupt a programme. That is why we created the REVIVAL Summer Build: a focused four-week training cycle designed to keep our members progressing without expecting their lives to revolve around the gym.
The aim is simple: maintain strength, improve fitness and give every session a clear purpose.
Why We Use Training Cycles at REVIVAL
A good training programme should not feel like a collection of random workouts.
At REVIVAL, our Small Group Personal Training sessions follow structured cycles. This allows members to practise key movements regularly enough to improve, while still experiencing enough variety to keep training enjoyable.
Across the Summer Build, members develop the main movement patterns:
Squatting
Hinging
Pushing
Pulling
Single-leg strength
Core control
Cardiovascular fitness
The exercises, tempos and conditioning formats may change, but the overall programme remains balanced. That means you can train several times each week without every session hammering the same muscles or repeating the same workout.

Building Strength Without Chasing Exhaustion
The final week of the cycle demonstrates how we approach strength training.
Monday begins with chin-ups, Tuesday uses the barbell overhead press, Wednesday features deadstop deadlifts, Thursday includes paused front squats and Friday finishes with paused barbell bench press.
Each strength movement is performed for five rounds of three repetitions, beginning every two minutes and thirty seconds.
This format gives members enough recovery to lift with control and intent. Rather than rushing through high-repetition sets, the focus is on:
Strong technique
Quality repetitions
Appropriate loading
Gradual progression
Confidence with the main lifts
The paused and tempo exercises make lighter weights more challenging while encouraging better positions and greater control. It is strength training that rewards quality, not ego.
What Is “Armour Building”?
Alongside the main strength work, several sessions contain an Armour Building section.
This is our name for focused accessory work designed to strengthen the areas that support the bigger movements.
In Week 4, this includes exercises such as box step-downs, single-leg hip thrusts, half-kneeling pulldowns, lateral raises, landmine presses and hanging leg raises.
These movements help members build:
Stronger joints
Better single-leg control
More resilient shoulders
Improved trunk strength
Greater muscular balance
They may not always be the exercises people post on Instagram, but they often make the biggest difference to how someone moves, feels and performs.
Fitness Without Doing the Same Workout Every Day
Conditioning is included throughout the week, but every session has a different character.
Monday uses short intervals combining wall balls, devil’s presses and erg work.
Wednesday features a longer partner workout involving running, wall balls, box jumps, dumbbell shoulder-to-overhead work and the ergs. Thursday uses a fast-moving AMRAP built around dumbbell hang cleans, thrusters, burpees and alternating V-ups.
This variety allows us to develop different elements of fitness:
Short, powerful efforts
Muscular endurance
Aerobic capacity
Pacing
Recovery between efforts
Teamwork and enjoyment
Not every workout needs to leave you lying on the floor. The purpose is to improve your fitness in a way that supports the rest of your training rather than constantly interfering with it.
A Week That Works as a Whole
One of the biggest advantages of following a planned cycle is that the week is designed as one programme. The sessions are not created in isolation.
Heavy pulling, pressing, squatting and hinging movements are distributed across the week. Accessory exercises complement the main lift, while the conditioning changes in duration, intensity and movement selection.
The weekend then offers further flexibility, with a fun Saturday cardio workout and dedicated REVIVE and HYROX options on Sunday.
Members can attend regularly knowing that the coaches have already considered the overall balance of their training.
Is the Programme Suitable for Beginners?
Yes. Every session can be adapted to suit the person completing it. A chin-up can become a cable pulldown. A barbell movement can be adjusted to a more suitable variation. Loads, repetitions and conditioning targets can all be scaled.
The structure remains the same, but the individual challenge changes. This is one of the main benefits of Small Group Personal Training. You train alongside other people, but you are not expected to lift the same weight, move at the same speed or begin from the same starting point.
More Than Just a Summer Programme
The Summer Build is a short cycle, but it reflects the wider REVIVAL approach.
We want members to understand that effective training does not require:
Two-hour gym sessions
Constantly changing exercises
Training to failure every day
Choosing between strength and fitness
Already being fit before joining
It requires consistency, intelligent programming and coaching that meets you at your current level.
