REVIVAL x GymSync: Take On the Hybrid Climb

2 min read

On Saturday 26 September, REVIVAL is teaming up with GymSync and Nike Training for a morning of racing, strategy and some fairly unpleasant amounts of cardio.

From 9:00–11:00am, teams of two will take on Hybrid Climb: three fast, escalating workouts designed to test your engine, teamwork and ability to keep moving when the numbers start getting serious.

We’ll be running heats throughout the morning, giving every pair their own race window—and everyone else the chance to make some noise from the sidelines.

The Format

Hybrid Climb is completed in pairs, working “I go, you go” and dividing the work however you choose. Each workout begins with 50 box overs before climbing through increasingly large rounds. You’ll have 10 minutes to get as far as possible, followed by two minutes of recovery before the next peak begins.

The format rewards more than fitness. The strongest teams will communicate, switch before their pace collapses and use each person where they are most effective.

Peak One: Row + Ski

10-minute AMRAP

  • 50 box overs to begin

  • 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60+ RowErg calories

  • 15 SkiErg calories between every rowing effort

Two minutes’ rest

Peak Two: Ski + Burpees

10-minute AMRAP

  • 50 box overs to begin

  • 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60+ SkiErg calories

  • 15 lateral pogo burpees between every skiing effort

Two minutes’ rest

Peak Three: Burpees + Row

10-minute AMRAP

  • 50 box overs to begin

  • 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60+ lateral pogo burpees

  • 15 RowErg calories between every burpee effort

It starts manageable. It does not remain manageable.

Choosing Your Partner

You don’t necessarily need someone with exactly the same strengths as you. A powerful rower can balance a stronger skier. Someone who is efficient over the box can protect their partner’s legs. One person may take longer efforts while the other keeps the pace high through shorter, sharper bursts.

The important thing is choosing someone you can communicate with when both of you are tired and neither of you particularly wants another turn.

Do I Need to Be an Elite Athlete?

No. This is a hard workout, but it isn’t reserved for professional competitors or people who own seven pairs of carbon-plated trainers.

Hybrid Climb is for REVIVAL members who enjoy training with purpose, want something to aim towards and fancy experiencing the energy of a proper event inside their own gym.

You don’t need to arrive as the finished product. You just need a partner, a willingness to work and enough self-respect not to disappear when the burpees begin.
